In ancient myths, it is the hero who brings language in the form of script. The great invention we give ourselves credit for is when we started to write this stuff down as the alphabet. So basically the hero brings script and it therefore must have seemed dramatically miraculous to these people that they could leave a note behind. And they could deliver their thoughts to somebody else who didn't have to be there. You know, we're talking here about a kind of emails technology before computers came along.
