Intolerance by Joseph Hennebury
Intolerance was not the massive box office bomb that some historians have made it out to be. Intolerance cost nearly 400 thousand dollars to make, a little over a third of which griffith had financed himself. Griffith was initially resistant, but eventually he let hennebury edit the titles. But only so much could be done to make a film that was inherently avant guard in its juxtaposition four unrelated stories into a commercial hit.
