C stands for consciousness, it certainly does not stand for collapse. Over time, it came to be associated with what I call doomerism. This fixation on the idea that industrial civilization will in very short order collapse into a pre-industrial mode. The particular style of collapse that I was most interested in was the collapse that would result from a shortfall in fossil fuel energy.
