They end up torturing and killing alfred, but edward escapes. So whatever this visit was about, whether maybe it was just to see their mother, maybe it had some political purpose,. It ends in disaster, and edward has to flee back to normandy. Meanwhile, meanwhile, this power struggle between emma and harold harefoot continues. Eventually, Harold harefoot persuades the witin to proclaim him as king. He takes up the throne
