The History of the $2 Bill

On June 25th, 1776, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of $2 denominations as quote unquote bills of credit. In 1862, the federal government started printing paper money and included a $2 bill in its first experiment with currency. At this time, $2 was a lot of money to just be throwing around - which is probably why we have our current $100 bills.
