The Story of Bruno Böchmeyer
Bruno's story was given a full spread in the magazine and overnight not only did everyone know him in Borneo, but in Europe too. He reluctantly agreed to meet with James Ricci, a reporter for one of Malaysia's biggest newspapers along with a full camera crew under the conditions that they would hear directly from the Panan. Ricci consented and did film several Panan leaders who spoke with passion about their forest homes. But what they were unaware of was that he was also working with the government. Bruno informed them of his location and law enforcement closed in. Dressed in camouflage and carrying automatic weapons, they closed in on Bruno, who was caught off guard.
