The End of the Ottoman Empire
Mark O'Mara: I love stories about small, you know, provincial places. And in searching for a way to sort of tie in this a history of what I thought would be the war years, I had to try to anchor it to a central thread. The obvious thread that runs through the last several decades of the Ottoman Empire is the Committee of Union in progress was the Young Turks. He says they came to power ostensibly in 1908 and ostensibly falls in 1918 but meetamorphoses into an anti-Empire movement which succeeds in 1922. "The greatest irony of all is really the force that ends the Ottoman Empire," he says.
