Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings
Tolkien said in letters that this is a fundamentally Catholic work, or Christian work. The only place where I know he received some resistance from a member of the Catholic Church was around the idea that elves reincarnate. Tolkien had a wonderful argument and answer to this gentleman who pushed back against this idea. And so in that way, maybe there's a contradiction, or maybe we're seeing simply the inner and outer, the esoteric and the exoteric expressions of a deeper interconnected tradition.
