What Is a Zebra Crossing?
A Zebra Crossing is a little bit of shared space carved out of roads that are otherwise clearly the dominion of the motorcar. The story goes that this is where, in 1933, the physicist Leo Zillard was crossing the road when he got the flash of insight that a chain reaction could cause a nuclear explosion. It seems like a pretty good place to think about what technologies can do to societies. If it happens with self-driving cars, it could reshape our cities. This could be exciting, or worrying, or both.
