The Sagittal Plane of the Foot

The midfoot doesn't really have a movement to stipulate. In fact, if there was a midfoot bone, I would say the cuboid is a midfootbone because it articulates ever so slightly differently on that lateral border. So out of all of the 26 bones, we've got one midfoot bone. Otherwise what we're really looking at is the forefoot opposing the rear foot. And it does that in all three dimensions or planes, depending on who's listening. If you don't have weight through your first metatarsal and fifth knuckle for non-professionals, you might not have an optimum amount of contact with the ground.
