Is the Universe a System of Energy?

When you consider the energy behind the universe, how can you look at it as like a system of energy? I don't need to have the universe created for me and some mission that a divine being has in order for the universe to be amazingly more complex and majestic than it is. And appreciating beauty is like something evolutionarily that was beneficial. "I do not see what it adds except to my own ego"
