Is There Any Example of a Thing?
I don't think our words refer to things out there, says Hilary. The very notion of the of the concept thing we can't find an example of something that is just this thing. And and that's because the thing is a closure. It's a way of closing all the openness and world into something in particular. So i don't think that our theories are proved right, as it were, because they approximate to what's really going on out there. I think what's going on is that they are, as i say, tools which we can refine the tool. We can make it better. That's not the sort of thing they are doing.
