The Origins of Violence in Genesis One

One of the big arguments you open the book with is that there was no violence at all in the Genesis account. Unlike any other ancient Near Eastern account where the universe was always birthed out of violence, a huge point for you is that violence was nowhere in that story. And I just wanted to draw that out first because I thought it was really profound. It's analogous actually to the second creation story where it begins in the garden. So sort of like retells the creation story in a new key. The surprise wouldn't have been that God would judge that way. The surprise would be that God preserves.
