We don't really know what causes some people to do, and some people not in the sense that when you look at different kind of families or different genetic profiles. All it might be is that there are multiple genes that interact. Maybe the more of these genes that you have, the more likely you are to get synesthesia. And actually, CC is one of those uber synesthetes who literally have everything. She actually has many different forms of synesthesia, including words to colours.
