The Bombride model is different, but it's used in a lot of research and you actually hear about it sometimes even in kind of just news reports or magazines. People don't talk about it from a religious point of view, but it fits so well with gospel principles that it's a very useful model - simple to describe and incredibly useful. To avoid permissive parenting, which is what Elder Maxwell is warning so stringently about are to be able to maintain the rule when the kids push back without becoming brutal.
