i was on this task force called the political instability task force from 27 to the end of 20 21. And a our goal was to put together this predictive model where round the world a civil war was likely to break out. There were over 30 different variables that the data analysts played with to try to determine what the best model was going to be. Of all these variables, two were in credibly important. The democracy is just a fancy term for partial democracy. Its governments that are neither fully democratic nor fully autocratic.

Civil war might be the most likely escalation pathway towards disaster for our country. On the flip side, learning how to avoid civil conflict — and more ambitiously, repair our civic fabric — might have the greatest leverage for addressing the challenges we face.
