The Ketogenic Diet and Mitochondria

The ketogenic diet provides an alternate source of fuel to those brain cells. It stimulates two processes related to mitochondria, something called mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis. Mitophagy is getting rid of old and defective mitochondria and replacing them with new ones. But on top of that, this other thing called mitochondrial biogenesis makes more mitochondria so that your brain cells can use glucose better.
