John Brown - The Son of John Brown
John Brown was born on May 9th, 1800 to Owen Brown and Ruth Mills in the town of Torrington, Connecticut. John's namesake was Captain John Brown, a farmer and revolutionary war hero who had briefly fought against the British in 1776 before dying of dysentery in a New York barn. When Captain Brown died, he left behind a pregnant widow and 10 children, including Owen Brown, who wrote that after his father's death, we lost our crops and then our cattle and so became poor. So, this is a more complicated story, I think morally than the story of Wallenberg, but I do think John Brown was still a hero.
