Orthorexia nervosa is not mentioned in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association. That means it's not recognised as an official psychiatric diagnosis in most of the world. Do you see this as being a modern day phenomenon or something that's been around for centuries? You can find a really amusing description of orthorexia in essays by the French essay S Montaña in the 16th century. The concept wouldn't have made sense if people weren't already doing it all over the world. I want to eat healthy but I don't want to be orthorexic.
