When you're saying layers, like I'm picturing layer cake, like actual ones on top and then it talks through one on the bottom. But the way I thought about encapsulation and separation in the past was you basically have a boundary between them. So they're not layers that are sort of dependent on each other. Instead, they talk to each other across some boundary and make sure that they keep their logic separate.
