O Death, How Bitter Is the Remembrance of You by Brahms
Brahms used the same key, melodic line and tone of sombre sadness in this song as he does in the symphony. The only difference is that the singer goes down to the sea, rather than the violins who go up to it. There is a reason that the development in this music is so obsessive. It's as if the protagonist cannot stop ruminating about those first few bars. And then bram's compositional genius re emerges.
