Tom has led multiple scientific and Royal Geographical Society expeditions into Northern Africa, including the first West/East crossing of the Sahara by vehicle. Tom is an exceptional practitioner of the craft, and authored numerous volumes on the subject, including the preeminent reference manual of overlanding, the Vehicle Dependent Expedition Guide.
