The Importance of Taping Off of Antidepressants
The most common approach is to stop people's antidepressants over four weeks or eight weeks. That normally involves telling patients to reduce their drug to a half for two weeks or four weeks and then down to a quarter of their dose, often by taking a half a dose every second day. So that's the most common process of the moment. We surveyed 1,400 patients who would come off antidepressants and ask them, what do their doctors tell them to do? And they'd all had a terrible time, that experienced horrible withdrawal symptoms.
