The Importance of Moderation in Religion

The only reason why these books have any integrity left in them, apart from the occasional example of good writing, is that we haven't had fundamental breakthroughs on ethics and spiritual experience. If you're an astronomer looking to the Bible or the Quran for guidance about how to think, you are not an astronomer. And the same will be true for what I'm calling here as a mystic or a contemplative. The more we understand about the human mind, the more technology intrudes upon it; less sane and rational people will fixate on these books.
