Booker T and the MG's had a new bass player. Reading was not hugely impressed by Sam and Dave. Atlantic put their arrangement with Stacks on a contractual footing, rather than their previous handshake deal. Al Bell brought in DJing, first in Memphis, then in Washington, D.C., where he'd been one of the biggest boosters of Stacks records in the area.
