Afghanistan could end up with an iran like regime. That's sort of the best outcome. Worst is if it comes to look like the 19 nineties, that women are not allowed to leave a house. Either case, it's an authoritarian regime. The models of sanctions and isolation will not help the afkhan people. Some kind of engagement is going to be needed in the months ahead. If western actors don't engage, then increasingly the taleban will draw upon others. This will also be deeply damaging to the broader apopulation. There's a long history of providing humanitarian aid in the country. We need tokind of draw on those experiences to get to those 18
