BBSs themselves are really, they're quite limited. It's pretty easy to install your own BBS on Linux and then set up a proper file area for things that you do want to get access to. Because it's telnet, it's text just transferred in the open. So this doesn't have any LEDs on it or anything, but somebody's done a version of it where you can attach eight LEDs which will flicker away when you're transferring data. They were just ahead of me, so they'd all died out by the point where I got online. And just reading that story is very nostalgic and cool. Like that, there's a Raspberry Pi book, something like
