Brian LaPointe: We need more research to get a better understanding of the nutrient drivers. He says we don't know enough about what's going on in the eastern tropical Atlantic. The Congo River, biomass and burnings are making that area a source region for the Great Atlantic Sargassum belt. And climate change might be affecting vertical mixing of natural nutrients from the deep ocean.
