The Challenges of Auditing Open AI
The owners of the technology are really vehemently against people auditing it, right? And really want to prevent people from getting that access. Instead, you have to go through and do these complex methods to do auditing which are then based on a lot of inference and speculation yourself. It insulates open AI from saying, well, that's not right. Your study was incomplete or incorrect in various ways. They're certainly not the only ones. I won't get into it in this episode but one of my big research project focuses on the insurance technology. These things are not open to independent audits whatsoever. Even regulators don't get their hands on them at the insurance companies.
