The Cost of Computing Power in AI
The amount of computing power used to train the most powerful systems has increased by a factor of 10 billion from 2010 to 2022. These most advanced models are costing on the order of about tens of millions of dollars to train them for their final training run. That's very costly, requires a lot of engineering talent and that's concentrating power at who's able to build the most advanced models in a small number of actors.
