The principles of 98 were, as i mentioned before, criticized by the new england states in particular. And yet, look who's come crawling back to them in 18 o nine when the shoeis on the other foot. At a special session of the connecticut general assembly in february 18 o nine, a series of resolutions supporting the position staked out by governor trumbull were adopted. They are urging all parties to abstain from co operating in the enforcement of the embargo because they believe it to be unconstitutional. So basically, the governor had told the federal government to go jump in a lake.
