Singing Drums and Guitar Solos

The basic arranging methodology of a pop or rock ensemble has grown around that norm of the lead singer who plays piano or plays guitar. There's kind of just a more established musical playbook for being a singing guitarist or bassist or pianist and I don't think that same playbook really exists for drummers, at least not quite in the same way. Singing is so much about breathing and you really need to control your breath. It's harder to do when you're playing an instrument that just requires more of you physically than strumming a guitar. Sometimes the teacher doesn't even know when he or she is teaching if you listen on the other end.
