The Spartan Ideal Is Not for Everyone
The aim was to make all Spartans live together on equal footing with merit, says Plutarch. All innovation was suspect and foreigners were expelled from Spartan territory. The same basic setup in Sparta lasted for like 400 years without any major internal revolutions. But having heard the institutions, you can also see why the Spartan ideal is not for everyone.
