You Can't Touch This by MC Hammer reached its peak on the Hot 100 of number eight in June 1990. A letter in parentheses that helped explain why it must have been loved was able to reach number one in the first place, the letter C. That billboard footnote was an abbreviation for cassette single or cuzingle. In the 21st century, where you can buy or stream virtually any track, single means simply song that is promoted to radio and bound for the charts.
