The Bridge Is Just So Good
i just love larry carleton's playing. tom scott has switched over to the tenor sacks for this bridge. joanie mitchell's vocals are the final piece of the bridge puzzle. I cn't mix in the same key as her, but when she sings, that's such a lonely thing to do. You can easily imagine this part being sung by the supremes or the romaits.
There are few singer-songwriters as inimitable as Joni Mitchell, with her swirling song forms, leaping melodies, and that magical voice, untethered by the laws of gravity. On this episode, Kirk takes a deep dive into Joni's 1974 song "Help Me," a hummingbird of a tune hovering between commitment and flight, tumbling and falling past love and toward freedom.
