Shagibe stands in quite a long line of literary tradition. There's a lot of books in the British tradition that look at the working class, but they oftentimes focus on heterosexual men at the time. And because of my own upbringing, my world as a young queer boy, but also being a mother's boy. I was a real mammy's boy. But it just meant my entire world was women. As a young boy, I was aware that was a wee bit weird. But as a writer, I got to see things. That was really amazing."
