The History of Segregation and Integration in the South

There was an IRS initiative to revoke Bob Jones tax exempt status because of its racially discriminatory policy. This is something that originated with the IRS saying, you can't be a 501 C three and have explicit racially discriminatory policies. There are folks who argue that the actual birth of the moral majority and the religious right in the United States is centered around the defensive quote religious liberty through the defense of segregation academies. But even those people who were interested in this sort of as the origin story of the religious right knew that they didn't have mass appeal.
