Is It Like Using a Ouija Board?
I teach Old Testament literature class, which is just like general survey of the Old Testament and you're trying to give them interpretation skills in the process. And by and large, students giggle when I say this, but I usually say, for most of you reading the Bible is like using a Ouija board. You kind of hover over a biblical text and you almost have your mind switched off because you want it to be a spiritual moment that all of a sudden if something jumps out at you. But then so there's that, but I would also say that even that direction can be dangerous because it's like, oh, we're going to read the Bible just like any other ancient book
