5-HT2C antagonist effect is then causing the increase in dopamine and norepinephrine. This seems a little bit more likely to me but my judgment is also maybe a little bit clouded because I haven't really come across a natural 5-HT1C antagonist. There's another thing called pituitary adenolate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) which can restore some of this loss neuroplasticity when we are stressed. Some of the compounds in saffron seem to actually enhance the expression of PACAP so that can have a unique anti-stress effect.
