The studios devised a way of negotiating contracts that eliminate residuals almost completely. For an actor that's struggling and finally has a hit show, they're not getting compensated for residuals anymore or barely at all. The studio continues to make money off of that product, and the actors are getting a very small percentage. And now it's as if the studio owns it all. Once you're done with it and you get nothing more.
