How to Tell What's the Real Deal?

The best way to approach public markets is just to assume everything you're hearing and reading is wrong. Companies will generally communicate some of their best attributes in their corporate presentations. They do tend to leave out their worst attributes. The one thing that companies have been less honest about at this point is the amount of drilling inventory they have left as well as the returns for those locations. It's not that they don't have the numbers that they'll say, but often the numbers aren't appropriate or deducted properly.
