The Battle of Abidos
The Battle of Abidos was fought in 410 BC between the Peloponnesian and Syracusean fleets. Mendars led his right wing, positioned near Abidos, while Darias and the Syracuseans were on the left, near Dardinus. The battle began when the commanders on each side raised a visible signal - at the sight of which Trumpeteer sounded the attack. Alcibiades' arrival towards the evening with 18 Athenian reinforcement ships from Samos was the decisive factor. Ultimately, Mendars' fleet was forced to flee back to their base at Abidos; they suffered heavy losses along the way. But not before they managed to capture 30 Pelop
