Pound was deeply immersed in archaic diction and outmoded approaches to poetry. His first three books were filled with formulations in which he dropped hard consonants. He recognized very belatedly as late as about 1912 that a lot of instructive advances had been made across the channel in France. The French provocations were so crucial to T.S. Eliot who when he was an undergraduate at Harvard started reading poets like Jules L'Afor.
