A former Playboy model named Karen McDougall wanted to tell her story about having had an affair with Trump in 2007. The Enquirer bought her story for $150,000 in August of 2016, but then never published it. And why? Well, AMI, that's the company that owns the National Enquirer, later admitted its principal purpose was to suppress the story so as to prevent it from influencing the election. On October 7, 2016, the Access Hollywood tapes dropped. I remember thinking that this was the end of the Trump candidacy for president.
