The Disillusionment of Anna Jarvis and Julia Howe
Anna Jarvis started the Mother's Day International Association in 1912. She became disillusioned when she found out how much money was being made off of the holiday. "It becomes normalized that there must be these things bought and sold as part of this," says historian Julian Zelizer.
