In order to liquidate the communal lands, capital needed to rob the Yaki and Mayo Indians of the rich valley land in Sonora state. The latifundis does mean while use all the dirty tricks, militias, violence,. theft, debt, alcohol, all to turn people into peons or outright slaves. They actually have slaves that they sell and buy for plantation work. In 1868 there's a rebellion by Julio Chavez Lopez. So this is just before Porfirio, the Chalko rebellion was called. And a thousand peasants occupy Asienves - these huge estates which are characteristic rural estates of Mexico at this time.
