The Role of Technology in the UK's Industrial Revolution

The UK was able to sustain productivity levels higher than their rivals because they adopted iron advances, metalworking advances and mechanization at scale more effectively. Oftentimes with the Industrial Revolution case we gravitate towards the fast-growing new industry of cotton textiles. And my argument is actually that it was this more gradual protracted diffusion of iron, machine making and mechanization throughout the entire British economy that was the real driver of Britain being able to industrialize at a faster rate than their rivals like the Netherlands and France.
