I Think That Critique Is the Default Mode
I think it's worth highlighting just that he's thinking about the intellectual location on much different terms. That strikes me as being quite contrary to the way that contemporary academics tend to do things. And so there's this kind of Aquinas is now in a place where he can refute certain positions. Because he sort of received something from which he can sort of build a, he has a sort of stable foundation for his intellectual life. But even within that format where he is taking on the exact opposite position that he's going to advocate for,. It's still not pure critique. He is building something out of that, which is certainly instructive I think.
