The Shift in Consciousness

You are liberated from yourself for a little while, but that is ultimately spiritual awakening. That is the shift in consciousness so that you are still a person, but you are no longer exclusively a person. There is still a personal self there. Of course, you remember your history, but something else has emerged. The essence of who you are isn't the person; it's the underlying consciousness.
