The Importance of Empathy in Horror

I think there is such an opportunity in horror to talk about the human condition. I would think and I'm going to find out that it's important to know as a creator, writer, why is this in the movie for the character versus just random scares. And so all of that terror to me comes out of caring about her even though we're witnessing the ways the world around her doesn't care about her or take her seriously. It's an interesting question about how to be empathetic without kind of laying your cards out on the table.
